The Rising Need for A Good Burglar Alarm

August 21st, 2010

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Times couldn’t be much more desperate than what our economy issues have reduced us to. Drug and alcohol abuse is on the rise and burglaries are happening like crazy, big time. We are seeing more and more of the ADT Home Security Systems yard signs are popping up all over all of the neighborhoods. ADT has been in the security business for over 130 years so they must be doing something right, right?

They (ADT) have a good website at www.homesecurityteam.com which is full of useful tips, offers, packages, contact information, installation issues and all the other information that a good quality web site that is user friendly has to offer. Burglar Alarms are getting to be a necessity and are becoming more affordable so this is a great site to check out.
The days of having a weapon and/or a big dog or two have gone past us. A good security system with video cameras are the way to go these days. I’ve never experienced a home break-in, but I do know some folks that have experienced it and there stories are hard to listen to. I just can’t imagine going through such a thing. I can see where they would always feel violated and tarnished in so many ways. I definitely would be sleeping with a big gun under pillow if that ever happened. I do have a few weapons but they are tucked away safe and secure, all legal like and I go to the shooting range every so often and am a pretty decent shot. I wouldn’t want to have to ever use one on somebody though.

The War Is Over

August 19th, 2010

At least that was what they were saying all over the late news last night. The last of the American troops were putting along in the last of the convoys leaving Iraq. It wasn’t all that exciting coverage but exciting news. Now let’s get on with it and let’s roll.

Recycle Those Paper Version Phone Books

August 19th, 2010

I’m tossing out (actually I’m recycling) my local phone books. There are so darn many of them and they just take up a lot of room and don’t get used, as long as I have access to the Internet that is.  When I need to find or get information about some one or some place I get it quickly while I’m online. I can’t even remember the last time I looked anything up in any of the paper version phone books. So out the door they go and a good riddance.

Like earlier today I spent some time online looking for a decent San Francisco auto repair center. I went to repairpal.com and found several that seemed to match my needs. My honda accord which is my only means of transportation is in need of a new timing belt and I don’t want to use any of my charge cards that I have in my wallet for several well known auto service centers. I’m determined not to use any of my credit cards, it’s a challenge but it’s working for me.

Domino’s Pizza

August 5th, 2010

I’m glad that the few top pizza companies in our area are currently having a pizza war. Calling the pizza man to deliver a pizza used to be a fast and affordable meal, but those days have long gone by the way side. Besides the cost of the pizza, there is a delivery charge, along with tax and of course you must tip the driver as well and I’d consider myself a good tipper. That all adds up, but if that what it takes to get a pizza delivered you do what you gotta do.

I have been a fan of Domino’s thin crust pizza most of my life. The more cheese and pepperoni that is piled on it the better.  Since the prices are being cut, due to the competition I can afford to order it more often!

The Muscle Car

August 5th, 2010

My older brothers and most of their friends were (and still are) muscle car freaks. There was always at least one car in the back drive way that was being worked on and/or restored and I learned a lot about cars by being surrounded by them growing up. If the car wasn’t from the 60′s or 70′s or earlier they just didn’t hold our interest even though there has been a few cool cars manufactured since then, not many but a few.

We have an annual fair and parade in our town each May and there is always a good amount of muscle cars, antique vehicles, fire engines, hot rods, motorcycles and the like cruising the town in anticipation of participating in the parade. This is a huge parade and people come from all over to watch and to participate in it each year. I enjoy watching the high school bands, the dancers, beauty pageant queens, the civic groups, celebrities and the local politicians that are in the parade, along with various other entries that entertain the large crowds.  But my favorite is when the muscle cars start coming down the street and the Harley Davidsons of course. They just get me going, big time!

It’s cool to see that some of the older model cars are starting to go back to some of the classic looks. The new Mustang the new Corvette and the new Camaro are starting to make more appearances around town now and then. Heads are turning to see how they look from behind and to how they sound. A guy that used to hang around my brothers just bought a new 2010 camaro and is looking for chevy camaro accessories to start souping her up for his fall and winter project.  By next May he may be ready to cruise along the parade route along with the newer good looking cars.
