What to do for the 4th of July

Monday, June 30th, 2008

I can’t believe that the 4th of July is on a Friday this year, which means that most people are getting a three day week-end, including me, but I still haven’t made any plans for this years celebration.

In the past I have gone to the local park where they have a decent fireworks display each year with a group of old friends. We usually get there nice and early and get a good spot, and break out the picnic baskets with all kinds of goodies to munch on and coolers filled to the brim with beer and wine, and get down to some serious partying. We have had some wonderful times doing this in the past, it is unfortunate that most of the old gang has moved away or has gotten hooked up with some that has made plans to party else where this year. There are only a couple of them left, so I guess I need to get off it my butt and give them a call and see what the plans are for this year, the 4th is this Friday and I’d like to know what the plan is, if there is a plan at all.

Red Hats!

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

I have a sister who belongs to the Red Hat Sociey and has been having a blast with all of her lady friends that have to be at least 50 years old to join this sisterhood and be able to wear the purple clothing along with the sporting of some type of hat that is the color of red.

She is always inviting me to come along to one of their monthly adventures and I have gone a few times and enjoyed myself, they are all very nice and have interesting and funny stories to share with one another and they do have some fun things lined up in the future that I will try and attend.

The “Queen Bee” is already trying to recruit me into their chapter and I keep trying to assure her that when the times comes and I am eligible to join, that I will gladly join up with them. I still have quite a ways to go, it seems that when you hit your 40′s you can join as some type of junior type member and you have to wear lavender clothing with a pink hat! I’m too young to even wear those colors, but my time will come and it will be a great way to make sure that I see my sister at least once a month and have some fun at the same time.

Microwave explosion

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Had the munchies but was too lazy to fix anything extravagant, so I figured a nice bag of popcorn with lots of butter and salt, and a nice tall glass of ice cold milk would to the trick nicely. I got a cold glass out of the freezer and filled it to the brim with milk and placed it back into the freezer to become extra cold and placed a bag of microwave popcorn in my old reliable microwave and next thing you know I smelled something burning, and it didn’t smell like popcorn.

I was in the other room tending to the needs of a few of my critters when I first smelled it, so I went running into the kitchen with all of the critters at my heels right behind me, in what they must have thought was a racing game. Upon entering the kitchen I found that the microwave was on fire and smoking like crazy and creating the most horrible stench. I got the fire out quickly, it hadn’t amounted to much, but it is totally ruined and now I need to start looking for a new one.

Of course my popcorn was ruined, but my milk was nice and cold and tasted great with some chocolate doughnuts that I had in the cupboard. Now I am going to need to find a replacement for my burnt up, worthless little microwave. Oh well, the next one will be bigger and better.

New Friends

Friday, June 6th, 2008

I stopped at TGIF Fridays for a drink after work and met the nicest couple at the bar. We decided to share a booth and sat and talked and drank for at least two hours. I know one thing for sure, that I was getting a bit tipsy towards the end. Anyway, turns out they know many of the same crowd that I do. They are a very open and honestly pleasant couple and we hit it off rather well. They invited me to come to a party they were planning, still a month or so off, and that they had intended to invite many of the same friends we share as well. Of course I accepted, being a bit of a party girl myself still. The kicker of it is that they are having the party out on a lake on their houseboat! Can you believe it? I can’t wait to go, I always wanted to go on a houseboat. As a little girl I used to fantasize about living on one, sort of like in the movies as in the old  black and white, made for TV movie, about “Tammy and the Professor”

Hot Dogs are made to eat outside

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

I don’t know what it is about hot dogs, but I do not like to buy hot dogs and the rolls to make at home, they don’t ever taste right. I have tried cooking them several different ways and they always come out tasting nasty.

On the other hand I do enjoy eating a hot dog at a baseball or football game, and we have a drive through Hot Dog stand here in town, that makes a delicious chili & cheese hot dog that I enjoy eating once in a while. I love drive throughs, any kind of drive through makes me a happy camper. I love driving up and placing my order, then handing over the money and having them give me what ever it is that I have ordered and they give it to me right in the privacy of my own vehicle. No need to find a parking place, no walking or standing in lines with people that smell, talk loudly, stare at you and basically get on my last nerve. And the kids, OMG, we don’t even want to go there. I’ll save that for another time!
