I Hate Laundry

The house hold chore that I dread the most is doing the laundry, I wish that I could afford to buy a washer and dryer that would enable me to do my laundry at my convenience in my own house and home, instead of lugging it to and from the laundry mat each week, as I have become accustomed to for these past several years. I have shopped around from time to time, pricing and comparing washer and dryers but have not as of yet been able to put up enough money to actually purchase these wonderful time saving appliances.

Buying A New Car Is Always Exciting

Today was a good day. My sister and I have been looking at used cars these past couple of weeks, her old 1987 Chevy Mini Van just has way too many miles on it and she has been spending way too much money on it lately keeping it running. She won’t get much for it and she doesn’t have a lot of cash right now to be putting into a new car, so it has been a challenge trying to find a good car for under a thousand dollars, I can tell you that.

We have found a few here and there but nothing has jumped out and screamed at us until today when we went to look at a 99 Honda Accord that just seemed to have her name written all over it. It’s good decent mileage, the air and the heat work, it has four doors and new tires and the radio even works. So she signed on the dotted line this after noon and after insisting that she get an auto warranty quote, which ended up being a great deal by the way that thankfully she took advantage of and signed up for that as well, we drove it off the lot and took it for a nice drive down Skyline Drive before heading back to the city to get ready for another day of heading off to work. Buying a new car is always exciting.

Coupons Can Be a Girls Best Friend

One of the things that I learned from my mother is that by using coupons you can save a good amount of money. She had a motto of never paying full price for anything and she did a helluva good job at doing it I might add. I didn’t really understand it when I was just a kid, but as I got older and learned the value of a dollar I started paying more attention to how my mother managed to save as much money as she did and so I started out by helping her cut out the coupons that came in the newspaper every week-end, some how she would end up with several copies of the paper which gave her tons of coupons every week to cut and sort and file in each of the different categories labeled in her coupon pouch that went every where with her.

These days there are so many coupons available for online shoppers as well, there are several websites that I have found that have coupons that you can print off right away and some give the information you need to get online discounts and special promotions for on-line shoppers only. I have gotten into the habit of checking out these offers before purchasing anything that I want/need, for me it is well worth the time that it takes to find these offers, because I am much like my mother in that I do not pay full price for anything, if I can help it.

The Gift That Keeps On Giving

One of my favorite Christmas gifts this year was the luxury car seat covers made of that nice fluffy sheepskin that my sister-in-law found and bought to give me. I have always wanted a nice set of sheepskin seat covers, but I just never really got around to buying them, so I’m really tickled to finally have some. What a difference they make in the comfort in my car which I spend so much time in these days.

We never really got a hard core winter storm this year. Most days it was in the 40′s and 50′s but even with such mild winter weather those sheepskin seat covers really made a difference in my long daily commute. Spending over an hour and a half each way makes for a long trip so anything to help make it nicer is always a nice welcome and these quality sheepskin products have made it a bit nicer both ways. It’s always nice to get a Christmas gift that really improves the quality of your life almost each and every day, a gift that just keeps on giving, so to speak.

Ticks

In the last week I have found 3 ticks on me, which just totally freaks me out. I managed to get the first one off with no hassle, but the last two have been a real pain in the rear. It looks like I have not gotten the complete tick removed and now tomorrow at my regular check up at the doctor’s office, it looks like I’ll need him to try and dig two tick heads out of me, sigh….

Safety First

Just the thought of someone breaking into my daughters apartment just freaks me out. She doesn’t live in the best of neighborhoods and with the economy still in such turmoil there are way to many home break ins going on so I am really on her case about checking into a decent security monitoring system to have installed for her safety as well as my peace of mind.

The fact that her last room mate moved out last month leaving my daughter all on her own to foot the bills and all alone 24/7 makes this even a more important task. I wish that she didn’t live so far away. I know that she is an adult now, but she is my first born and I’ll always worry about her no matter where she goes, what she does or how old she gets.

Special K Diet

There is a commerical on TV for Special K cereal that says if you have a bowl of Special K every day for two weeks that you will lose weight. I don’t remember if it says you have to do anything else for this diet. Of course, you want to eat other healthy foods and watch the serving sizes if you are going to diet. But their promise is that if you eat Special K every day that you will lose one jeans size in two weeks. That’s a pretty ambitious promise. I could use a smaller size of jeans. So I’m on my 4th day of the Special K diet and we’ll see if it works!

Boring is So Uncool

Years ago I worked for an insurance agent as his office manager and secretary. He was a nice guy, but a little boring. All he ever did was come to the office and then go home to his wife and kids. His wife tried to get him involved with the kids but he never wanted to go. I wonder why he even wanted to have kids if he never went to watch them play ball or go to the dance recitals and that stuff that kids do? His wife always took the kids and he would stay home and watch movies on TV.

At the office he was always pleasant but after a while I had a hard time finding things to talk about. He wasn’t interested in anything but insurance and movies. Personally, I find life a lot more exciting and promising than sitting around a tiny office waiting for the phone to ring with news of a client who just wrecked their car.

Easy Tick Removal Trick

My sister sent me the following email message that I thought was interesting and useful enough to bother putting out here, in hopes that it might help some one out in their time of need.

HOW TO REMOVE A TICK AS PASSED ON TO ME

A School Nurse has written the info below — good enough to share, And it really works!!Â I had a pediatrician tell me

what she believes is the best way toÂ remove a tick. This is great, because it works in those places where it’s
some times difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in theÂ middle of a head full of dark hair, etc.

Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few

seconds (15-20), the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when youÂ lift it away.

This technique has worked every time I’ve used it (and that was frequently), and it’s much less traumatic for the patient and
easier for me.Â Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can’t see that this would be damaging in any way. I even had my

doctor’s wife call me for adviceÂ because she had one stuck to her back and she couldn’t reach itÂ with tweezers.

Girls = Drama

I have had my fill with the stupid girls. You know the ones, the girls that live their miserable lives to suck other people into their misery. You know I use to spend a lot of time talking and listening to girls that are having problems. Then I realized something that mom said a long time ago is true most of the time; â€œpeople who need advice wonâ€™t take it, and peopleÂ who take advice usually donâ€™t need it.â€

Iâ€™ve seen so many girls get caught up in petty drama, and then just keep feeding it. Iâ€™ve seen so many girls push themselves into more and more drama in relationships, in work environments, at school and just about everywhere. I am not talking about all women here, and I am not sure if men do thisÂ as much, maybe they do, I just don’t know.

My own experiences have been with girls that have the answers right in front of their eyes, sometimes the thing to do is leave a bad relationship, sometimes itâ€™s best to just drop it and move on. I know they can see what is needed, they just won’t acknowledge it for some silly reason. So many times I have spent time listening to womenÂ who really doÂ know the answer, they often evenÂ express that very thing, but they just keep right on feeding the drama anywayÂ rather then moving on to more positive situations.
