The Muscle Car

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

My older brothers and most of their friends were (and still are) muscle car freaks. There was always at least one car in the back drive way that was being worked on and/or restored and I learned a lot about cars by being surrounded by them growing up. If the car wasn’t from the 60′s or 70′s or earlier they just didn’t hold our interest even though there has been a few cool cars manufactured since then, not many but a few.

We have an annual fair and parade in our town each May and there is always a good amount of muscle cars, antique vehicles, fire engines, hot rods, motorcycles and the like cruising the town in anticipation of participating in the parade. This is a huge parade and people come from all over to watch and to participate in it each year. I enjoy watching the high school bands, the dancers, beauty pageant queens, the civic groups, celebrities and the local politicians that are in the parade, along with various other entries that entertain the large crowds.  But my favorite is when the muscle cars start coming down the street and the Harley Davidsons of course. They just get me going, big time!

It’s cool to see that some of the older model cars are starting to go back to some of the classic looks. The new Mustang the new Corvette and the new Camaro are starting to make more appearances around town now and then. Heads are turning to see how they look from behind and to how they sound. A guy that used to hang around my brothers just bought a new 2010 camaro and is looking for chevy camaro accessories to start souping her up for his fall and winter project.  By next May he may be ready to cruise along the parade route along with the newer good looking cars.

Make-Over Issues

Friday, July 30th, 2010

I have the best relationship with my 12 year old niece Brandy. Not only am I her aunt but I’m her god mother as well and I’m loving every minute of since and have been since the day that she was born. Not only is she a great kid, but a good person and a model student in the elementary school that she just graduated from. I can’t believe that she is starting middle school in just over a month.

She spends a good amount of time over at my place so we have decided that she can go ahead and make one of my spare bedrooms her room away from home. She has taken over the challenge of finding the items that she wants and needs to make it her own style and her own private space. She is good on the computer and knows how to research things in order to find what she wants at a good price.

Right now she has her eyes on a nice chenille bedspread that she found using the site of become.com, which is a great product review and price comparison site for all types of products. She is looking for new bed linens and some accent pillows and possibly a cute looking throw rug to go along with the whole scheme of things. I’m sure she will come up with something fabulous, of course everything needs to be approved of by me in the end, but I’m confident enough in her taste and talents to think that this will work out just fine and dandy with us both.

Squash

Monday, July 26th, 2010

I was just turned onto a couple of yellow and green squash at work. I plan on cooking them in butter along with some onions, with a good amount of salt and pepper for this weekends dinner menu. I love this time of the year when people have way too much produce from their back yard gardens and end up having to give the over flow to friends, family and co workers.

The Karate Kid

Friday, June 11th, 2010

I took my 13 year old niece to see the movie “The Karate Kid” it turned out to be a pretty good movie and now she wants to see the “Karate Kid” movies that came out back in my day. She is looking to find the movies so we can rent them and watch them together some weekend in the near future. Sounds good to me, they were all good flicks.

Rough Waters Soothed by Friendship and Song

Monday, March 8th, 2010

My best friend is a Josh Groban fan. She knows that I’ve had a rough couple of weeks lately and sent me this video of Josh Groban singing “To Where You Are” that she found on You Tube. It was an inspiring song and I’m glad that she sent it and I wanted to share it here.
